So far so good


Through this work, I wanted to showcase denial. The refusal to take part of one’s reality into consideration because that reality is unbearable to the individual. In psychoanalysis, denial is a defense mechanism induced by the subject refusing to recognize a reality perceived as menacing and/or traumatizing

This steel character’s lower section is covered in rust. To me, this contrast represents the reality which he avoids despite it being laid bare in front of him. He’s wearing a cardboard box on his head which renders him blind, although we don’t know if it ended up on his head voluntarily or not. He is twiddling his thumb, a symbol for inaction.
